if only they could stay little!
Mylah went to Beginner’s Day for Kindergarten yesterday. Last night we took a picnic to the park and spent a great evening there. I am cherishing every moment with her because I know that as she grows, the world demands more of her and my time with her grows scarcer.

April Climbing in Meteora
Just wow. A professional drone photographer saw April and Brenden climbing in Greece and asked to use them for this.

zac and allie
What a joy it was to celebrate my beautiful niece’s wedding yesterday. Allie has been like my fourth daughter. She grew up two doors down and she and April always “met in the middle.” I have always said that Allie managed to get the best parts of each of her parents and none of the bad parts. For now, Zac and Allie are living just feet away in the garage apartment. I am so thankful for this girl, and that the love of her life is such a treasure.

Here is my birthday card from Mylah, age 4. It’s a picture of the two of us having a picnic at the park. You can’t see our legs because we are sitting down. Laura told me that when she first drew it we were nude and she drew in our belly buttons and some round things in our chest area, which Laura asked her about and Mylah said they were our armpits. Then she decided to draw clothes on us. I love the creativity of this little girl!

happy family day!
I love my family for lots of reasons. They are absolutely the best. Today the weather was so beautiful that we had a spur-of-the-moment get-together and cookout. Cal was so excited he thought it was somebody’s birthday (his!). So we sang “Happy Family Day.”

birthday
I’m not a big birthday person, especially when it comes to my own birthday. I don’t like being the center of attention and would be just as happy to not do anything on my birthday. But my sweet dad, at almost 84, was determined to celebrate my birthday this year. So on a day of heavy rain, we got the family together for chicken strips, mac and cheese, and salad. It was a pretty quiet, low-key afternoon, but I realize how blessed I am to have people who want to celebrate me, and grandchildren who can’t wait to sing Happy Birthday to me. Of course April was missing, but she sent flowers and called. Today is her birthday, so I’m missing her even more today. Happy Birthday, April!
