I’m preparing for our annual crazy family beach trip.  It’s going to be a hard one this year without my sister-in-law Anne, who passed away in November.  While we are there we are going to honor her by committing her ashes to the ocean.  But I think that it also honors her if we continue our tradition of fun family time there.  I know that she would want the little ones in our family to grow up knowing the joy that we have all found together on that beach.

With that in mind, I am preparing for my “Theme Night.”  Our Theme Nights are a long-time family tradition.  For Theme Nights each family takes one night to be in charge of the food and activities for a given night and everything is done around a theme.  It’s like a party every night.  This year the theme we chose is “Mermaids and Sharks.”  So I am exploring all kinds of ways to build a party around that theme.  Nothing against Disney’s Little Mermaid, but she’s not invited to this one- I want to make it more generic, although I might choose to play some of the music from that movie.

My favorite thing I have come across so far is this shark made of watermelon.  How cute is this?  I’ve showed it to Tom and he is excited about it too.  I think we’re going to give it a shot.  Hopefully I’ll have pictures to post of ours afterward!
