extra yarn

Perhaps the Christmas present that I was the most excited to give this year was the book Extra Yarn, which I gave to my two-and-a-half year-old granddaughter Mylah.  This wonderful book was written by Mac Barnett and illustrated by Jon Klassen.  This is the story of Annabelle, who lives in a town which is devoid of color until she finds a box of magical yarn and starts knitting sweaters, first for people, then for animals, and houses, and trees, and more, transforming her town.  I love this Caldecott Honor book on many levels.  The heroine is creative, kind-hearted, and generous- what more could you wish any child to be?  And Mylah knows that I love yarn, so I know that this book and the story of magical yarn will always make her think of me.

If you love yarn, or even if you don’t, you will love this book.  Share it with a creative, kind-hearted child.
